Gaudez was a French sculptor. Having studied under Jouffroy, Gaudez began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1864. He was awarded a bronze medal, followed by a gold medal in 1881. He was one of the best-known French sculptors of the later 19th century, partly because of his prolific output, but also because of his meticulously detailed renderings. Gaudez sculpted the Florian monument in Alès and the war memorial in Remiremont commemorating Citizens of the Vosges who gave their lives for France.
